Accessibility

How we build for accessibility, what we have tested, and what still needs work. Last reviewed 8 August 2026.

Our commitment

Learnable Academy is built for neurodivergent learners — people with dyslexia, ADHD and related differences. Accessibility is not a compliance exercise for us; it is the product. We aim to make the site usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, navigate by keyboard alone, rely on magnification, or need reduced motion.

Standard we work to

We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA. WCAG 2.2 includes everything in WCAG 2.1 Level AA, which is the standard most commonly referenced in law and in procurement.

We describe this as a target we work toward and measure against. We do not claim full conformance, and we are wary of anyone who claims it unconditionally — no site of any size is free of accessibility defects, and honest reporting is more useful to you than a badge.

What we have done

In August 2026 we completed a review of the site and fixed, among other things:

  • A site-wide CSS rule that removed the keyboard focus outline from every element. Focus is now always visible.
  • Quiz answers, which could previously only be selected with a mouse. All quiz types are now standard radio groups, operable with arrow keys and Space.
  • Missing page structure: every page now has a main landmark, a skip-to-content link, and a top-level heading.
  • Form fields across sign-up, login, password reset, profile and contact that had no programmatic label.
  • Buttons and links whose only content was an image, leaving them unnamed for screen reader users.
  • Page titles and focus handling, so each page announces itself when you navigate.
  • Text and input-border colours that did not meet minimum contrast.
  • Dialogs and menus that could not be closed with the Escape key.

Known gaps

These are the issues we are aware of and have not yet fixed. We would rather tell you than let you discover them:

  • Video captions. Our lesson intro videos and marketing video do not yet have captions or transcripts. The player supports both and the production process is in place; the caption files are being written and checked. This is our highest priority accessibility gap.
  • Colour contrast in decorative areas. Some decorative elements and category tags on marketing pages fall below the contrast minimum. No information is conveyed by these alone, but they are on our list.
  • Course authoring and teacher tools. These administrative screens have had less accessibility work than the learner-facing site. If you use them with assistive technology, please tell us.
  • Independent audit. Our testing to date has been internal — automated tooling plus manual keyboard and screen reader checks. We have not yet commissioned a third-party audit or testing by assistive technology users. We intend to.

Accessibility features you can use now

  • An OpenDyslexic font toggle in the site header.
  • Read-aloud on lesson content and quiz questions.
  • Reduced-motion support — if your device is set to reduce motion, we turn off animations and celebration effects.
  • Keyboard operation throughout the learner experience, including all interactive activities. No activity requires dragging.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on this site blocks you, please email support@learnableacademy.com with the word “Accessibility” in the subject line. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology you use if that is relevant.

We aim to acknowledge reports within 5 working days and will tell you what we intend to do and when. If we cannot fix something quickly, we will offer another way to get to the content or complete the task.
